Dr. Cilla specializes in conservative treatment of gum disease and cosmetic procedures to aesthetically enhance your smile as well as diagnosis and clinically treat lesions of oral pathology.

During your course of treatment, Dr. Cilla will work closely with your general dentist. A referral by a general dentist is not required to visit our office, however we always welcome referrals from patients and friends of the practice.

Initial Visit

Please assist us at the time of your initial visit to the office by providing the following information:

• A referral slip and current full mouth set of x-rays from your referring dentist.
• A list of medications you are currently taking (please note that you can download and fill out your medical history form from our website).
• If you have dental insurance, please bring any forms or insurance cards with you to the appointment.
• Please Note: All patients under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all appointments.

Please notify the office if you have a medical condition or concern prior to surgery (e.g. artificial heart valves or joints, heart murmurs requiring pre-medication, severe diabetes, or hypertension).

We will complete an in-depth review of your medical and dental health history and complete a thorough examination to measure for bone loss, tooth mobility, occlusion (bite), recession, and record any other signs of oral disease.

Will It Be Painful?

We will be as gentle as possible. The periodontal evaluation is completed with little to no discomfort.

Do I Need X-Rays?

We will need a current full mouth set of x-rays in order to see disease not otherwise visible. If your referring dentist has taken x-rays, you may want to request that they be forwarded to us. If you do not have a current full set, we will take them at your initial evaluation.

Will I Need Surgery?

Not everyone needs periodontal surgery. If treated early, gum disease can be controlled without surgery. We will make recommendations based on your individual situation. The philosophy of our practice is to treat as conservatively as possible to attain the necessary treatment goal.

When Will I Go Back To My General Dentist?

Dr. Cilla recommends that the first cleaning post treatment be at our office so he can monitor and re-evaluate your periodontal condition. Usually following that initial cleaning it is recommended you alternate between your general dentist and our office to receive the best care with both doctors monitoring your oral health.

Our office and your dentist will work closely together. If crowns and fillings are needed your dentist will provide them. Regular visits to your general dentist are an important part of periodontal maintenance.

What If I Don’t Have Gum Treatment?

Periodontal disease is a progressive, painless infection. Delay can cause you further bone loss and more out of pocket expense. If your teeth are lost, dentures are never as effective as your own teeth.

What Will It Cost?

All patients require different needs therefore a periodontal evaluation must be completed before establishing your treatment plan and providing you with the fees associated with the type of care necessary. The fees for periodontal treatment can vary considerably depending on the type of treatment recommended and the complexity and length of time involved. An approximate fee can usually be determined at the initial visit; but on occasion, further diagnostics must be completed before the final cost of treatment can be established.

Will My Insurance Cover The Cost?

Dental insurance plans often cover periodontal treatment. Please bring all dental benefit information and cards to your appointments. Upon request, we are happy to submit a claim to predetermine your insurance benefits on your behalf, although this is not required by most plans, it is strongly recommended.
